When PSAs were simple
rubber-based systems, extrapolation of 100 ft/min test data
might predict behavior at 1000 ft/min process and conversion
speeds. Today’s highly complex polymer systems, however,
no longer produce peel and release forces that follow speeds
linearly. In fact they can become inverse and convoluted.
ZPE-1100W instruments are employed world-wide to characterize
release systems throughout the range of real-world process
speeds.
Speed range for the ZPE is from 94 to 12,000 in/min. (.04
to 5 Meters per second.) Uses a precision servo nip roll drive
that can be programmed to run at any constant speed, or to
ramp speeds linearly from 0 to 1, 0 to 2 or 0 to 5 Meters
per second. A single test then, can cover a spectrum of speeds
reducing the number of tests that have to be run.
Some of ZPE’s features are:
• Full scale ranges of 50, 500 and 5000 gmf.
• Includes up-to-date PC computer, monitor and printer.
• Windows based operating program
• Graphed data can be edited to avoid start and stop
anomalies.
• Test data can be fit to a polynomial up to 20th order.
• Sample rides on airshelf to eliminate friction forces.
• Strips liner from label or label from liner, without
using overlay.
• Determines rms values of force as a measure of chatter
or zippering.
• Files may be output and stored in several formats,
including direct entry into Excel.
